The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for
Bantama, Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has dispelled speculations that he has resigned
from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mr. Kokofu told Kasapafmoline.com in a
telephone conversation not to give credence to a purported letter announcing his
official resignation from the elephant family.A letter dated October 1,
2016 said to have emanated from the Bantama MP and gone viral on social media in
part said “I wish to formally communicate to all stakeholders of the NPP that, I
resign as a member from the party with effect from today.”
“I wish to
thank all who supported me during my time as a candidate and also a member of
parliament for the Bantama constituency. I have to embark on a personal project
and I think it will be a rightful decision to resign and concentrate fully on
this mission.”
“I feel many people now question my loyalty to the NPP;
upon my decision to run as an independent parliamentary candidate. I equally
doubt that, I can remain loyal to the party and it is prudent I resign and then
focus on my personal mission. Though I hope to win, but, I would rejoin the
party in the event that I lose the upcoming election.”But the Bantama legislator
said there is no iota of truth in the purported letter said to have been
authored by him.
The MP on Friday, September 30, 2016 filed his
nomination to contest in the parliamentary election as an independent
candidate.
His action has been described as shocking by followers of the
Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition since the party has filed a candidate to represent
it in the December 7 parliamentary election.
Kokofu lost to his opponent,
Daniel Aboagye, in the party’s parliamentary primaries held last
year.
