Fifty-eight chiefs in the Ashanti region have unanimously declared their
support for flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, indicating
they are ready for the consequences. According to them, although similar
endorsements over the years has caused the region under-development, that will
not stop them from endorsing Nana Akufo-Addo.
The chiefs announced their endorsement through the senior traditional leader,
Nana Yaw Owusu, who indicated that due to the voting pattern in the region,
which has favoured the NPP over the years, the John Mahama-led government has
not been fair to the region in terms of development.
This, he says, would not stop them from voting for Nana Akufo-Addo. Nana Yaw
Owusu who is the Mpaboahene said although chiefs and traditional leaders are
barred from actively engaging in partisan politics, they believe that issues
bothering on development is of prime concern to them; hence their open
declaration for the NPP. The chiefs who had gathered to receive the NPP
flagbearer cheered and applauded the declaration which also got party supporters
shouting with enthusiasm.

Nana Akufo Addo began his campaign of the Ashanti region on Wednesday which
would see him focus on constituencies which have consistently voted for the NDC
although they are in the stronghold of the NPP.
