President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been urged to commit his appointees to signing performance contracts that would ensure that they effectively deliver on their core mandate.
According to a former communications member of the NDC Zongo Caucus who defected to the NPP, Awal Mohammed, such a move is necessary to fulfilling the vision of the NPP administration to the people of Ghana within the expected period of time.
“I believe when a performance contract is signed on what is expected of you within a period of time, there will be much motivation to deliver and if they fail to deliver, then, there is no reason to retain them in office,” he stated in an interview with the Daily Statesman.
Mr Awal entreated the President to choose competent people to man the various ministries and government agencies while making sure “to incorporate some capable youth so that at least they learn from the experienced ones to take up the leadership mantle of the country in future.”
He implored party followers to “allow the President space to arrange his government in order to fulfill his campaign promises even if he has to appoint people outside of the party so that Ghana could be a better place for all.”
Touching on the investiture of the Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr Awal expressed satisfaction at the successful organization of the programme, describing the President’s speech as an instrument of hope for a better Ghana.
“The President’s resolve to protect the public purse and make sure there is value for money was very significant, especially when the NPP has repeatedly talked about bloated projects under the NDC and the corruption that bedeviled their administration in its campaign.”
“I believe Ghanaians would have a better opportunity under Nana Akufo-Addo,” he added and implored them to support the President to effectively execute his policies.
“We need to still pray for the President and his Vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to effectively run this country in the four-year mandate given them but, let us exercise restraint in the wild expectations of the new government because they will need some time to settle down,” he urged.
The Former Communications Director of the NDC Zongo Caucus commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for his resolve to include the Zongo Development Fund in its first year budget.
He, however, called for effective management of the fund to properly disburse monies to members of the Zongo community to improve their lives.
“I expect the people appointed to manage the fund not to only wait for government budgetary allocation to the fund but seek alternative means of funding to sustain the fund for a longer period of time.”
