TRADERS at the biggest market in West Africa, the Central Market in Kumasi, have given assurance to President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that they are ready to offer their unflinching support to ensure that his government succeeds, to fulfill the dreams and high hopes of the people.
According to the traders, they are aware of the enormous task ahead and the high expectations of the people from the incoming government, starting January 7.
Speaking to the Daily Statesman days after the NPP and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo were declared victors of the December 7 elections, the traders expressed their readiness to play a part in their own small ways to "protect our government from nation wreckers and vampires."
The traders were confident of a new Ghana under the NPP administration, noting that if the new government was given the needed support by all Ghanaians without unnecessary criticisms, the country would naturally re-adjust itself to meet the economic needs of the citizenry.
Nana Akosua Afrah, a market queen at the Central market, believes even though things would work exceptionally for the people under the NPP government, it will not happen immediately after January 7. She therefore called on Ghanaians to have patience for Nana Akufo-Addo and his administration to work for the nation.
Like many others, she is looking forward to seeing Nana Akufo-Addo's administration resolve the economic challenges that have bedeviled the nation.
To her, while it is crucial for Ghanaians to continue to have faith in the NPP to deliver, it is also incumbent on the people to do their part, to ensure that the NPP government does not only succeed, but everyone living in the country becomes a living testimony of the positive impact of the Akufo-Addo's administration.
"It is important at this point to rally all support behind this incoming government which have been very clear and consistent in what it wants to do. All we can do is to help him succeed and if he does, we all will greatly benefit from that," the market queen stated.
For most traders, while they expect reduction in taxes, their main focus is on how the NPP government can fastrack the removal of the many bureaucracies at the country's Ports, to make the place more easy for traders to clear their goods.
They also want the incoming Nana Addo administration to facilitate work on reconstruction of the Central Market, institute a very effective and efficient tax collection system at the market to ensure that the monies collected at the place go to the right institutions to develop the nation.
They added that they were ready to pay taxes to ensure the government had enough funds to turn the fortunes of the country around.
