The wife of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has asked residents of Mamobi in the North Ayawaso constituency to discard the notion that the NPP leader will expel foreign citizens out of the country.
She was addressing the issue of the Aliens Compliance Order implemented in 1969 by the United Party (UP) - a precursor to the New Patriotic Party.Through the legislation thousands of West African nationals mostly Nigerians were repatriated back to their country.
The North Ayawaso constituency is mostly inhabited by people from the Northern, Upper East, Upper West regions as well as nationals from other west African countries mostly Mali, Niger and Senegal.
Reacting to the perception that foreign nationals will be ejected should the NPP win the 2016 election, she said the allegation was unfounded since the party is a family of people from varied backgrounds and cultures.
"He is expelling you to go where. Bawumia's wife is a Fulani, he is expelling Samira to go where, our (constituency) chairman" is also a Zambarama man so....ignore all the propaganda”, she said.
According to her Dr Bawumia who is of Northern descent understands the people’s problem better and will help bring the change and development that has been lacking over the years to the community and consequently appealed to the people to give the NPP a chance. She was addressing a durbar of chiefs and Imams at Mamobi in the North Ayawaso constituency on Saturday November 11th 2016.
According to her, with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia expertise on the economy and her husband’s experience in politics she has no doubt they will change the fortunes of the country for the better.
According to her the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) initiative targeted at reducing poverty, creating jobs and wealth through the provision of small loans to medium scale enterprises has benefited only a small portion of the population.
"Masloc is an NPP initiative, so we know how it works but some people are giving it out unevenly but be rest assured that when we come to power everyone will stand to benefit, “she said.
In his remarks the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Council of Zongo Chiefs (NCZC), Chief Imoro Baba-Issa bemoaned lack of educational access for people within the Zongo community.
He said most a time, the academic pursuit of people living within the Zongos are truncated after Junior High school and called on whoever wins the election to make education a priority for people living in the Zongos.
According to him it will go a long way to improve the lives of people living in the community. In that regard, he expressed optimism that when campaign intervention such as the Zongo development fund is implemented, it will go a long way to benefit the people.
He advised the NPP supporters to be tolerant as the country goes to the poll next month and stressed on the need for peace, unity and togetherness as the only way to further the development cause of the community.
