Governments have abandoned market women — Nana Konadu

The 2016 presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has said governments over the years have taken market women for granted.
She said market women played a significant role in the agricultural sector and the economy  as a whole, and for that reason an NDP government would not abandon them.

Nana Konadu, who has been holding series of meetings with market women across the country, took her campaign to market women of Agbogbloshie Market in Accra on Saturday.

Significant role
She urged the market women to vote massively for the NDP to form the next government so as to bring good governance to the nation as well as work to end corruption in the country
Nana Konadu said a government of the NDP would change the fortunes of market women as they would be provided with the financial and material resources to contribute to the growth of the economy.

She said that  could lead to stable prices of foodstuff on the market and  translate into more  profits for the market women, saying that “when prices are stable inflation wil be lower.”
In her interaction with the women, Nana Konadu expressed frustration at the dwindling fortunes of the Ghanaian economy and its negative effects on the people, especially market women who were engaged in buying and selling to make a living.

The NDP flag bearer cited  the difficulty with which mothers and fathers had to work hard  to earn a living to  pay the school fees of their children.

Speaking on the theme “Our Future, Our Nation  “she  told  the market women to vote for the NDP, and for a woman who understood their circumstances.

She  said since she had done it before as a former first lady, she could do a lot more better  for women when elected to lead the country

Background
Already, the presidential candidate of the NDP has embarked on a series of campaign tours meeting queenmothers throughout the country.

As part of the tour, Nana Konadu has already visited queenmothers in the Central, Western  and Volta regions, and will  take her campaign to other regions in the course of her tour.
Throughout the discussion with the queenmothers, she has been empowering  them on their role  in the socio-economic development  of their communities.

Her discussions have also centred on the development of the girl child who he says deserves a future of opportunity.
