General Secretary of the People's National
Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed has described President John Dramani Mahama as a
'promise-addict'.According to him, President John Mahama's promise
galore is as a result of his addiction and so believed he will never stop giving
outrageous promises to the people of Ghana.
Commenting on the President's
recent promise to increase the number of regions in Ghana to 15 instead of 10,
Atik Mohammed was alarmed at the rate at which the President keeps promising
without any commitment to fulfilling them.
He told host Kwami Sefa Kayi
on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' that the President's desire to create
additional 5 regions to the existing regions is ridiculous.
He wondered
how the President is going to achieve it, asking "Where are they going to come
from? Do you have an idea, Chairman? I don’t know. Is Northern Region going to
be split into two? Western Region, Ashanti Region; how . . . You don’t just
propose regions because it is politically correct to say so.”
Atik
Mohammed further expressed worry over the Mahama administration, saying "I think
increasingly our President is becoming a 'promise-addict' . . . Addiction is
very difficult to do away with. When you’re addicted to something and you face
some hardship, you’ll still find a way of doing that which you’re addicted to.
So, even though the President is promise fatigued; because it’s an addiction, he
cannot stop.”
He also appealed to the government to re-introduce the
allowance scheme for teacher trainees in the country, explaining that the
allowance will help to cushion the trainees and encourage more people to become
teachers.
