Otiko Afisa Djaba, Women’s Organiser of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP), has employed supporters of the party not to jubilate over
the victory of the party by stepping on toes of other
opponents.
According to her, such actions only give birth to violence
which mostly result into very unfortunate situations.
On Friday, 9th
December 10, 2016 the Chairperson of Electoral Commission pronounced Nana Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo winner of the 2016 General Elections, making him the next
President of Ghana. That was after President Mahama had called to concede
defeat.
Most streets in the country went agog with many supporters
nationwide greeting the EC’s declaration with wild jubilations. The wild
jubilation informed the warning by the Women’s Organiser.
She
acknowledged the fact that the NPP leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has been
vilified by the rank and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for
years, but insisted it was uneccesary for NPP supporters to visit same actions
on any NDC member.
Otiko Afisa Djaba, was particular against the
repeatition of the unfortunate incident which occured at the manifesto launch of
the NDC, where some supporters carried a coffin and put Nana Addo’s poster
around it.
Some supporters of the NDC on Saturday, September 17, 2016
stormed the Sunyani Coronation Park, venue of the launch of the NDC’s manifesto
ahead of this year’s elections, with a coffin bearing posters of Nana Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the NPP.
Speaking on Adom TV on
Saturday, Otiko Djaba admonished the NPP supporters to live above that behavior,
since two wrongs did not make right.
She assured them that Nana Addo is
focused and his government will turn things around in the country to create more
jobs for the youth and improve infrastructure development to the benefit of all
and sundry.
