A former Northern Regional Minister in the
erstwhile Kufuor and his New Patriotic Party, NPP-led administration, Prince
Andani Imoro, has stated the NPP is poised to revitalize the Savannah
Accelerated Development Authority, SADA, to bring extensive development to the
three regions in the north if given the nod to govern the country in the
December 7 polls.According to him, unlike the NDC, a Nana Akufo Addo
government will not countenance any corrupt scandal in SADA, pledging the party
is resolved to implement sound developmental policies to bridge the development
gap between the north and the south.
Mr. Imoro was addressing
participants at a national forum on transformation of the Northern Savannah
Ecological Zone organised by the coalition of Civil Society Organisations, CSOs
in Bolgatanga of the Upper East Region.
Mr. Imoro who represented the NPP
presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, promised the NPP was
resolved to thoroughly transform SADA if they got the presidential mandate in
the upcoming December general elections.
He hinted the NPP had planned
changing the name of SADA to Northern Development Authority, a decision he said,
was taken by the party after broad consultations with distinguished stakeholders
in the country.
"We are changing the name from SADA to the Northern
Development Authority, so we can concentrate on the developmental lapses
confronting the north. We are taking out the northern part of the Volta Region
and the Brong Ahafo Region from SADA because we need to bring total development
to the north", he said.
While asking Ghanaians to rise up to support give
Nana Akufo Addo and the capitalist NPP a one-touch victory in the December
crucial race, he said the party was also sensitive to the rural farmer, hence it
would restore the subsidies on fertilizers which had been scrapped by the NDC
government.
Touching on other campaign promises captured in the NPP
manifesto, Mr. Imoro said, " the one village, one dam promise will be delivered
if we get power. The one district, one factory is also going to see the light of
the day", adding the NDC which is the main opponent of the party had no message
for Ghanaians after leaving the country at the mercy of corruption and turbulent
economic crisis.
The Chief Executive Officer, CEO of SADA, Dr. Charles
Abugre, assured the new board members of SADA were leaving no stone unturned to
rebound the organisation to mass up development for the northerners.
He
pledged the institution under his stewardship, would commit to put the interests
of the north first, adding he would not tolerate any misappropriation of funds
and extravagant expenditure in the organisation.
"The board members of
the old SADA has been totally overhauled because of the financial malfeasance.
I, therefore, plead with you (Ghanaians) to repose confidence in the new
management", he appealed, stressing agricultural activities in the north would
witness a great transformation should SADA took off.
The presidential
candidate of the Convention People's Party, CPP, Dr. Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet
and the presidential nominee of the ruling NDC, president John Dramani Mahama
are yet to avail themselves before the organisers to unveil their plans towards
the transformation of SADA if given the nod in the 2016 presidential and
parliamentary elections. |
