President John Mahama has spent the last eight years destroying the strong economic foundation built by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said.“The truth is that the foundation was already laid by the Kufuor government,” said Dr. Bawumia Thursday.
He said President Mahama and the NDC since 2008 have mismanaged the country, weakening the robust economic foundation laid out by the erstwhile NPP government.
Delivering a lecture on the Ghanaian economy themed “the state of the Ghanaian economy; a foundation of concrete or straw” Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to dump the NDC saying it will be suicidal to retain the NDC.
“You need to manage an economy with competence and keep corruption under check if you are going to make progress,” he said.
He noted that after eight years under the NDC government, “today our economy is in decline, and we are a country at high risk of debt distress.”
“The fact is that you cannot achieve brighter days with mismanagement, incompetence and corruption,” added the former deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana.
Former President Kufour who chaired the event stated that Ghanaians are suffocating under the leadership of president Mahama saying the economy is the most topical issue in the country.
“Ghanaians are mourning,” he lamented, urging Ghanaians to give the NPP the chance in the forthcoming elections.
Member of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwamang in the Ashanti region, Kwame Osei Prempeh warned that it will be suicidal to retain the NDC arguing that the economy under the NDC has been plunged into recession.
“Things are getting worse everyday” he told Starr News’ Bernard Nasara Saibu Thursday at the event.
