While admitting that the current situation can be likened to a time bomb waiting to explode, Nana Addo proposed measures to address the problem.
Speaking at a meeting with chiefs and elders of Obom-Domeabra as part of his tour of the Greater Accra Region, Nana Addo said his topmost priority is to create jobs to address unemployment in the country if voted into power in the December polls.
“I fear for the future of this country. We must do
something about the current unemployment rate in Ghana because if care is not taken something bad may happen if this situation is not addressed. A lot of young women and men do not have jobs which is very very worrying that is why my topmost priority is to ensure that the teeming youth of Ghana get jobs. We need to do something about employment for our young people in this country.”
Unemployment Ghana’s biggest problem – IEA
A recent survey conducted by the Institute of Economic Affairs, (IEA) identified unemployment as the foremost problem confronting the majority of Ghanaians today.
According to the survey, urban dwellers, females, and the majority of people living in the Western, Eastern and Central regions, identified unemployment as their biggest problem in Ghana.
The survey, conducted between November and December, 2015, sampled 1,500 respondents from across the ten regions of Ghana, who were 18 years of age, and above.
