GHANA NEEDS AKUFO-ADDO NOW: HE IS SIMPLY NOT MATERIALISTIC

The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, over the years, has shown that he is not interested in material acquisition. This is a fact that is widely known and accepted by all discerning Ghanaians and has been acknowledged by the Founder of the governing National Democratic Congress.

Unfortunately, same cannot be said about President John Dramani Mahama and functionaries of the NDC government/party who appear to be in a competition, seeking to outpace one another in their unbridled acquisition of wealth, to the detriment of the Ghanaian masses that are facing excruciating hardship.

It therefore comes as no surprise to see elements in the NDC excited about the pointless comments from President Mahama’s political poodle, Hassan Ayariga, who is the flagbearer of the All People’s Party, questioning why Nana Akufo-Addo should be using his father’s house as his current residence.

But the fact of the matter is that, unlike Hassan Ayariga and his friends in the NDC who consider politics and governance as an opportunity to amass wealth, Nana Akufo-Addo is not driven by the non-patriotic passion for material gains. He is concerned about the wellbeing of the masses, and the development of the country.

It was not for no reason that both former President Jerry John Rawlings and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, recently heaped praises on him for his selflessness, with the later disclosing that he (Nana Akufo-Addo) never charged him legal fees for the many years he served him as a counsel.

Nana Akufo-Addo throughout his distinguished public life of over 35 years has continually placed the collective interest of Ghanaians above his personal ambitions of any kind. He has indeed demonstrated he is a man for the suffering people, fighting for their liberties and wellbeing.

And as rightly pointed out by Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, Founder of the Danquah Institute, Nana Akufo-Addo could have easily acquired a great number of material positions if that had been his motivation for occupying a public office or entering into politics.

With the current state of sordid state of affairs in the country, where material possession has been the pre-occupation of people power, Ghana needs a leader like Nana Akufo-Addo. This is a political leader who has consistently expressed his determination to create a society of equal opportunities for all.

And there is also no doubt that he is prepared to make a conscious effort to jealously guard the resources of the country and ensure that they are fully utilized for the benefit of all, and not for his personal gain and that of his family and friends, as it is being witnessed in the country at the moment. That is why Ghana needs Nana Akufo-Addo now: the man is simply not materialistic.
