'I will sign counter petition against Montie 3'

The second vice-chairperson of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Susan Adu Amankwah has said that she wished the Supreme Court had given the two panelists and host of Montie FM a stiffer punishment to serve as a deterrent to others.

According to her, the contemnors, Godwin Ako Gunn, Alistair Nelson, and host Salifu Maase popularly known as ‘Mugabe’ should have spent Christmas in jail.

Susan Adu Amankwah comment comes after lawyers for the three contemnors expressed confidence that President John Mahama will grant pardon to them before the end of this week.

The three contemnors are currently serving a four-month jail term for threatening the lives of judges in the country.

One of the lawyers for the contemnors, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe claimed information available to him suggests the president may grant their request.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Susan Adu Amankwah said she would rather sign a counter petition by the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) to keep the Montie trio in jail.

In her view, just showing remorse is not enough cure for threatening to kill Supreme Court judges.

“Showing of remorse is a defense mechanism; whether you are remorseful or not, the punishment must go on,” he stressed.

The CPP woman warned President Mahama will be shooting himself in the foot if he heeds to the call for pardon by his ministers and members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The people [Montie 3] were perceived to be performing on his [Mahama] behave so it will not look right for him to pardon them,” she stated.

Susan Adu Amankwah bemoaned how political parties defend their members when it is even obvious that they are wrong.

“If they were CPP people, I will support the Supreme Court; it is not about who is right but what is right,” she added.
